Downer EDI, a leading Australian company specialising in sustainable railway technology, maintaining Melbourne’s newest fleet of High Capacity Metro Trains. With 65 HCMT trains in Melbourne, DownerEDI continues to refurbish existing parts to reduce waste and improve sustainability.

The scope of maintaining Melbourne’s HCMT paint repairs and window replacements required the coordination and collaboration between engineering companies and DownerEDI for maintaining HCMT paint and windows,. Copamate with over three decades of experience in manufacturing and maintaining, played a vital role in supporting DownerEDI’s mission for maintenance.

Copamate specialises in manufacturing and maintaining train components for both new builds, maintenance and refurbishment. Copamate gained extensive experience in refurbishing a wide range of tram and HCMT parts through a vast range of projects.. Copamate’ s diverse expertise ensured that each component met the specific requirements of DownerEDI, contributing to the support Melbourne’s HCMT fleet maintenance.

Copamate was entrusted with the refurbishment of:

Nose Cone Respray

Painting of HCMT nose cones refurbished in Copamate’s facility. Utilised Copamate’s 2 large paint booths.

Tram painted parts.

Interior and Exterior Fabrication

Copamate’s team of professional painters visited HCMT sites to repair paint for aesthetics and protection.

  • Efficient Lead Times: Copamate’s prompt delivery of solutions to DownerEDI ensured a seamless continuation of HCMT fleet operations. By adhering to strict timelines, Copamate’s efficient lead times also bolstered operational productivity by minimising downtime and maintaining HCMT’s punctuality. Copamate has been prompted by Downer to answer calls within 60 seconds at the business hours of 8 until 4, or call back downer within 15 minutes during after hours, weekend and public holidays. Copamate professionals must arrive on site within 4 hours and complete the work within 48 hours.

  • In-House Capability: Copamate’s two in-house paint booths are equipped and compliant with Australian standards AS 4114:2020 for the required capability for extensive paint repairs, specifically for the HCMT nose cone painting.
